Homemade Classic Reuben Sandwich Recipe Russian Dressing

What is a Reuben Sandwich?
A traditional Reuben consists of grilled slices of rye bread with Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, Russian dressing, and corned beef. The cheese melts and the bread gets crispy.
We prefer serving the sandwich HOT, but it may also be eaten cold. An enticing grilled sandwich is created when the meat is heated, the cheese melts, and the tart dressing seeps into the sauerkraut.
How to Make a Reuben Sandwich?
Ingredients
Sandwich:
- ½ tsp olive oil
- 1/2 lb corned beef
- 1/2 cup sauerkraut, drained
- 2 Tbsp unsalted butter, room temp
- 6 slices rye bread
- 6 slices Swiss cheese
Russian Dressing:
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 1/2 tsp lemon juice
- 1/4 cup mayo
- ⅛ tsp paprika
- 1/2 Tbsp onion, finely grated
- 1 ½ tsp creamy horseradish
- 1 1/2 tsp chili garlic sauce
- ½ tsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
Step 1: Combine all the Russian Dressing ingredients in a bowl and leave aside.
Step 2: Add oil to a skillet and place over medium heat. Add the meat and heat through just until it’s heated through.
Step 3: Butter each slice of bread on one side just a little bit. Lay out the bread on a plate, butter side down.
Step 4: Place a layer of dressing on each sandwich, then add the cheese, meat, and sour kraut on top. Sandwich bread by pressing the slices together.
Step 5: Sandwiches should be cooked in a heated skillet for 4–6 minutes, flipping once. Cook until the bread is crusty and the cheese has melted.
