Why We Love This Seafood Boil
Customizable: By selecting different kinds of seafood, seasonings, and extras like corn or potatoes, you may customize your sea food boil to your tastes.
Social Meal: A boil is a great way to get people together and make mealtimes more interesting. It’s ideal for backyard parties.
Easy Preparation: The materials and amounts used in this simple seafood boil can be scaled up or down, and it’s comparatively straightforward to prepare.
Ingredients For Seafood Boil
- Cooking Oil – Vegetable oil, canola oil, or avocado oil are great for sautéing the sausage.
- Garlic – Fresh garlic improves the boil’s flavors, which is why we love to use it.
- Smoked Sausage – I generally always cut the andouille sausage into ½-inch pieces after grabbing it.
- Seasoning – Use bay leaves and old bay seasoning sparingly.
- Water & Beer – to mix with the broth. It is advised to drink a light beer, such as a pale lager.
- Broth – My favorite is chicken or vegetable broth, but you may use whatever you have on hand.
- Corn – To speed up cooking, we’re using fresh corn on the cob that has been cut into 2-inch pieces.
- Seafood – Pre-cooked snow crab legs and raw shrimp.
- Potatoes – Choose Yukon gold potatoes or fingerling potatoes.
- Garnish – Freshly chopped parsley and freshly ground black pepper.
- Butter – melted. Either salted or unsalted can be used.
- Serving – Serve your boil with lemon wedges and hot sauce on top of layers of newspaper, if desired.
How To Make Seafood Boil
- Cook the Sausage: Heat the oil in a large pot over medium-high heat and cook the sausage. Cook the garlic for 20 seconds after adding it.
- Add Seasoning and Veggies: Add corn, potatoes, bay leaves, water, broth, and Old Bay. Bring to a boil.
- Simmer: Reduce the heat and simmer until the potatoes are soft, 15 to 20 minutes.
- Add Seafood: Add crab and shrimp, cooking until done. Save 1 cup of the liquid after draining. Pour over the Seafood after combining the liquid and melted butter.
- Ready to Serve: stretch out the seafood boil, stretch out the newspapers on a table, and season. Serve with lemon and spicy sauce, garnished with parsley.
How Long To Boil The Seafood
- Since the snow crab legs are already cooked, they will need 4 to 5 minutes to boil. It may take up to 20 minutes for the crab to cook completely if you want to use fresh crab in your crab boil.
- Raw Shrimp usually takes between 2 to 3 minutes to cook.
- If using lobster tails, cook them in the boiling water for 8 to 12 minutes, or one minute for each ounce.
- Clams, if using, will need about 5 to 7 minutes.
Seafood Boil Recipe Tips
Versatility of Ingredients: You don’t have to follow the recipe exactly. To suit your tastes, add additional proteins like clams, lobster, or other sausages.
Fresh Veggies: You can use frozen fish, but for the finest flavor, use fresh corn. Don’t be afraid to add other veggies, such as peas or green beans.
Avoid Overcooking Shrimp: Shrimp that is overcooked becomes rubbery. Take the cooked shrimp out of the saucepan if the crab requires extra time.
Cook Potatoes Separately: Add the crab legs after boiling the potatoes separately if you’re worried about their cooking all the way through.
Adding Heat: Include some red pepper flakes for a spicier seafood boil.
Serve Immediately: I suggest serving that seafood boil right away – it tastes the best when it’s fresh.
